What was I in a past life

An executioner of the inquisition  

A goalie in the butterfly position 

A man in search of life

Was I a vagabond

A traveling musician in search of enlightenment 

A graduate without his commencement 

A child skating on a frozen pond

Was I a tiger skating in skates

Prowling across a half-open cage

Stopping rubber fits of rage

Engaging in never-ending debates

Did I float through life

Or did it simply drown within me

Did I pace with the grace of Nijinsky

Or fade away in the embers of strife
